Manheim Delivers More Advanced Vehicle Information to Clients, Industry
Rise of digital buying furthers advances in inspection and condition report technology

ATLANTA – October 8, 2019 – As digital buying continues to gain momentum, Manheim has invested over $30 million in its inspection and condition reporting technologies over the last five years. The investment is paying off for buyers and sellers, who now benefit from more consistent and accurate vehicle information. Developed in partnership with Alliance Inspection Management (AiM), an industry leader in vehicle inspections with proven technology, the most recent round of advancements includes a reimagined inspection process, an all-new inspection platform, condition reports that automatically follow vehicles across locations and an industry leading “Approvals from Anywhere” tool. These additions give buyers greater peace of mind when doing business digitally.

“The rise of digital buying demands more accurate and consistent condition information, as fewer and fewer consignors are physically kicking the tires of their potential purchases,” said Fredrick Standfield, senior vice president of Assurance and Reconditioning at Manheim. “Manheim is leading the industry with unmatched data intelligence and new technologies—lessening subjectivity and delivering more comprehensive and actionable insights before the purchase.”

Details on the recent vehicle information enhancements include:

  • Next Generation Inspection Platform – Manheim’s innovative inspection platform, powered by AiM, now features all-new hardware and software, built from the ground up to provide a faster and more consistent inspection. The tool methodically guides inspectors around the vehicle and utilizes standard descriptions for vehicle issues, thereby reducing subjectivity for damage description and severity. The new inspection devices are also equipped with 4G connectivity, providing greater mobility for inspectors inside and outside the auction gates.

  • Automated Build Data – In the new platform, human error is significantly reduced via enhanced build data obtained via OEM and Chrome integrations. This data brings in VIN-specific details about each vehicle, ensuring that comprehensive information such as year/make/model, trim level, color, interior, standard equipment, packages and options are imported automatically. This enhancement speeds up inspection completion and significantly increases accuracy of the vehicle description, an important element in determining vehicle value.

  • Condition Reports that Automatically “Follow” the Vehicle – Consignors that move vehicles between Manheim locations will appreciate this new technology, which enables condition reports to automatically “follow” vehicles. Previously, if a vehicle was inspected at one location and then moved to another, the original condition report could only be transferred to the new location through a manual process. But now, the vehicle is automatically recognized by its VIN, and the second inspector can confirm or update the condition. Repurposing this information, rather than starting over, will improve the consistency and accuracy of Manheim’s condition reports.

  • Approvals from Anywhere – Clients who use Manheim’s reconditioning services can now make quicker and more informed decisions by having the ability to review estimates and approve repairs through their Seller Dashboard on any device. Previously, clients would approve repairs in person, but this new enhancement gives them anytime, anywhere access to their estimates and an intuitive process to approve desired repairs. This exciting new functionality speeds up the approvals process and keeps clients’ vehicles moving on the lot

“The future of vehicle information combines the best technologies with the most comprehensive data—two things Manheim is uniquely positioned to capitalize on,” added Standfield. “As we move quickly toward automating vehicle information capturing, we will employ emerging technologies leveraging AI and Intelligent Damage Detection, adding significant value for our clients.”
