CANtastic: Manheim Drives Away Hunger through Global Cox Automotive Campaign

Manheim is on a mission to help eliminate hunger by participating in Cox Automotive’s company-wide campaign: Drive Away Hunger. In June, Cox Automotive companies teamed up with Feeding America in the U.S. to reach more than 40 million people through food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other community-based agencies across the country. Globally, Cox Automotive works with food backs local to its worldwide sites. This marks the 11th consecutive year of the Drive Away Hunger campaign, which launched in 2007.

Each year, team members load up as many bags as they can carry and drop them off at the nearest donation bin. The drive focuses on food items that food banks have deemed most-needed, which includes canned meat and fish, dry pasta, fruit juices, soups and healthy snacks, among other items.

Highlights from Manheim fundraising efforts include:

  • Manheim Brazil donated over 27,000 pounds of food alone—making it the top fundraising site globally across Cox Automotive.
  • Manheim Brazil, Manheim Statesville and Manheim Milwaukee all landed in the top 10 fundraising locations across the company worldwide and will receive a $10,000 donation to their local food banks from Cox Automotive.
  • Manheim Atlanta and Manheim Fort Lauderdale tied for the CANstruction award against 18 other Manheim Auction submissions. The teams then went on to the next round, with Manheim Atlanta winning the GOLDEN CAN Award for all Cox Automotive business unit finalists.

CANstruction is an annual fun event at the end of each Drive Away Hunger Campaign team members to use the collected donation items to create structures.

“For the second year in our 11 year history with this campaign, Drive Away Hunger reached across the globe, including places like Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Brazil and others,” said Michele Blondheim, Executive Director Community Relations for Cox Automotive. “Supporting our communities is a part of the very fabric of our DNA, and we are continually awed by the scale of how team members pull together to create such a big impact.”

The overall Cox Automotive effort produced 152,157 pounds of food for community food banks, which will provide over half a million meals for families in local communities.
