Manheim Innovates to Improve Auction Experience for Customers
In 70th year, company continues to invest in expanded customer solutions, facilities

To seize opportunities being generated by remarketing industry growth, Manheim is investing in solutions that improve the auction experience for its customers. Celebrating its 70th anniversary and looking ahead to the future, the company continues to evolve its offerings, facilities and processes to make it easier for dealers to conduct business.

“We continually strive to anticipate our dealers’ changing business needs and make industry-leading improvements to help them compete more effectively in the marketplace,” said Manheim North America President Janet Barnard. “These efforts represent Manheim’s long-term commitment to listening to our customers and delivering innovations and efficiencies that give them a competitive advantage.”

This year, Manheim rolled out solutions designed to:

  • Create the Auction of the Future – Manheim is on a multi-year journey to create a simpler, more consistent experience for its customers –one that allows dealers to spend their time focused on buying and selling cars. This year, the company launched its Second Chance Sales app, enabling dealers to easily search for and make offers on unsold vehicles after they cross the block. A new arbitration system is also available that closes 75 percent of all cases within 48 hours or less.  In addition, dealers can now collect electronic gate passes at Manheim.com, speeding their access to post-purchase activities.  In the future, customers will be able to save more time by ordering post-sale inspections, checking title status and making payments – all via digital and mobile channels.

  • Deliver Quality Vehicle Images that Boost Confidence – In response to positive customer feedback about experiencing stronger conversion rates, increased sales and higher online buyer retention levels with Manheim’s Enhanced Vehicle Imaging, the company now offers this technology at 22 locations. Most recently, the largest state-of-the-art imaging system was installed at Manheim Orlando. It runs double the capacity of current models, photographing the interior and exterior of four vehicles in 6.5 minutes. The system’s split-imaging capabilities, computer-controlled LED lighting and wireless digital cameras deliver the highest resolution images available.

  • Reach More Customers Via Mobile Auctions – The explosive demand for Manheim’s Mobile Auction program has led to double-digit growth in vehicles sold through mobile auctions to date. Currently, Manheim has 29 mobile auctions, with 28 under development. Mobile auctions provide dealers with sales options beyond Manheim’s physical network, and serve smaller markets by reducing transportation expenses and expanding the buying customer base.

  • Prepare for Anticipated Growth with Improved, Upgraded Facilities – To ensure auctions are well-positioned for future growth, Manheim is adding 11 double-block auction lanes at Manheim Statesville, Manheim Detroit and other locations. Double-block lanes double the number of vehicles that can be run down a single lane. In addition, the company completed a makeover at Manheim Fort Lauderdale, is upgrading vehicle inspection operations at Manheim Palm Beach and Manheim Pittsburgh, and recently opened a 21,000-square-foot vehicle inspection facility along with the new Kelley Blue Book Resource Center at Manheim Riverside.
