Cox Automotive and NIADA Salute North Carolina Dealer for Outstanding Community Service
Matthews Motors honored for philanthropy and volunteerism; helping shape a better world
"We commend Matthews Motors for demonstrating how every person, every organization, every day can make a difference when it comes to serving their community," said Janet Barnard, president of Cox Automotive Inventory Solutions.

LAS VEGAS, June 15, 2017 – Recognizing community service as a core business value, Cox Automotive joined the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association (NIADA) to present the seventh annual NIADA and Cox Automotive Community Service Award to Matthews Motors of Clayton, N.C. during the 71st NIADA Convention & Expo in Las Vegas this week. Presented by Janet Barnard, president of Cox Automotive Inventory Solutions, this award recognizes an independent dealership for outstanding contributions to its community and the innovative ways it collaborates with community partners to help further their missions.

“We’re honored to receive this award and be recognized by NIADA and Cox Automotive for creating positive change in our community,” said Steve Matthews, owner of Matthews Motors. “The real reward, however, comes from the impact we’ve made serving the Clayton area all these years.”

Family-owned and operated since 1994, Matthews Motors distinguished itself by embracing philanthropy and volunteerism with more than 15 local charities and youth programs last year alone. The dealership raised more than $70,000 during the past two years for Clayton Area Ministries, a non-profit organization that provides food, medicine and utility bill assistance to local residents in need. It also joined other area businesses to raise more than $10,000 for the Southeastern Medical Oncology Center’s free mammogram screenings program. In addition, team members volunteered their time supporting the Johnston County Teen Driver Safety Initiative, Johnston County Education Foundation, Toys for Tots, American Red Cross and Harbor Inc., a shelter for domestic violence victims.

“Helping shape a better world through responsible company and individual actions has long been a part of the Cox culture,” said Barnard. “We commend Steve and the Matthews Motors team for embodying these principles and demonstrating how every person, every organization, every day can make a difference when it comes to serving their community.”

To honor its significant community service, Matthews Motors received a check for $10,000 to donate to Clayton Area Ministries. Added Matthews, “This allows us to continue doing the things we’re passionate about and ‘pay it forward.’”
